Inside the Azurite Mine in Path of Exile

Path of Exile was released for PS4 on March 26th, and we’ve been enjoying it for the last month. We can’t resist a game crawling with mobs and flashing with glorious seizure-inducing skill animations.

It’s hard to believe Path of Exile is free to play—we would gladly have paid $40 for a game of this quality. There’s tons of content and distinct content modes. The hundreds of skill options and insanely robust passive skill system boggles our minds. Just an hour into the game we were already looking forward to creating new characters and trying other builds.

Our review won’t be ready for a few weeks. In the meantime, we wanted to show some gameplay from Niko’s azurite mine. Here, players defend a cart while it travels through tunnels, surrounded by an inky darkness that consumes you if you touch it. After the cart completes its trip, you choose its next destination, traveling deeper into the mine and the clutches of the homicidal mobs.

Neither of us can resist playing a mage class on our first playthrough for an RPG. Genevieve’s playing a minion-based necromancer with fire spells; John’s witch is a lightning-based elementalist.
